The POCUS Certification Academy offers several volunteer opportunities that can be customized to fit your busy schedule. Our current opportunities can be found below.

Assessment Volunteer Opportunities

Case Author: Create clinical cases for assessments using our online authoring tool for any content-specific area. Case creation includes the submission of case media (where possible), writing narratives, providing patient data (such as vitals) and identifying answers for templated questions. Use cases from your day-to-day life, and make sure to use at least two videos for each case.

Case Reviewer:  As an independent expert, you will review drafted clinical case assessments. Reviews will be completed independently or with staff in a virtual meeting.

POCUS Fundamentals Item Reviewer: As an independent expert, you will review drafted multiple-choice questions for the POCUS Fundamentals assessment. Reviews will be completed independently or with staff in a virtual meeting. Topics of review include instrumentation, basic principles of ultrasound, ultrasound artifacts, safety, and bio-effects.

POCUS Fundamentals Item Writer: Use the online remote item writing program to write multiple choice questions for the POCUS Fundamentals assessment. Topics to be written include instrumentation, basic principles of ultrasound, ultrasound artifacts, safety, and bio-effects.

Template Developer: Assist in developing clinical case templates for new content areas. Case template development includes selecting sonographic findings, anatomical findings, diagnostic findings and possible overall diagnosis. Case template development is also responsible for selecting what type of questions to ask, how many cases will be on the assessment, peer reviewer questions, and video submission criteria. Case template development can be completed independently or with staff in a virtual meeting.

Template Reviewer: Work with a group of clinicians to develop, edit, and approve the following:

  • POCUS certificate templates for various content areas
  • Eligibility requirements/prerequisites
  • Required number of cases for each certificate
  • Peer evaluation and practical assessment criteria
